The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon is an interesting novel narrated by a teenage English boy with autism. When his neighbor’s poodle is murdered, he is accused for the crime, because of his mental condition. But he didn’t do it. Thus, the boy goes on a quest to find the poodle’s murderer. A fast and easy read because of the simplicity and uniqueness of the writing. The reader also learns about people with autism. A very good book.
A Spot of Bother, Mark Haddon’s second novel, is most unlike The Curious Incident. It chronicles the irreverent goings-on of a dysfunctional modern English family, operating rather like a comedic film, but fell flat for me and did not retain the same heart as his first novel.
