Book Review: A Great and Terrible Beauty (The Gemma Doyle Triolgy, Book 1) by Libba Bray

greatterribleLibba Bray is the author of this supernatural teen fantasy, entitled A Great and Terrible Beauty. At the turn of the twentieth century, sixteen-year-old Gemma Doyle relocates from India to Spence Academy, an English young ladies’ boarding school, after the death of her mother.

Together with her new girlfriends at Spence, Gemma uncovers an old school secret, a sort of secret society in which the teen girls can transport into the spirit world. Meanwhile, Gemma is grappling with the discomfort of possessing her own psychic abilities, as well as being followed by a mysterious– and sexy– Indian man. This novel was riveting, well-written, and the ending even rather profound. I went away loving it.
